Friends and Artists
As artists have for centuries, I have always painted friends – they are easier to convince to pose. I often also have a self portrait I'm working on (the model is usually moderately cooperative). These collage portraits provide a glimpse of our time; for example, I used part of an envelope found in the studio in my portrait of Meg. In my Guardian Self Portrait, I used the daily newspaper I read while at the Slade. In NYSS Self Portrait, I used paper found in a studio.
